Partnership Aims to Help Manufacturing Employers Find Credentialed Workers

ROCKFORD, Ill., August 4, 2016 – The Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, Intl. (FMA) announces a new partnership with WorkAmerica, an online recruiting platform designed specifically for manufacturing employers searching for workers with the appropriate skill sets, training, and credentials. On WorkAmerica, job seekers create a profile and add the industry-recognized credentials they have earned. The website can also help candidates to generate a resume based on their profile. Companies can then search the extensive database of prospective employees by location, experience, credential, or even a specific skill in order to recruit the ideal candidate.

Twenty-four session speakers have been selected for Pipe & Tube Charlotte 2016: Racing to the future with best practices and new technologies. The complete lineup is posted on the conference website. In addition registration is officially opened and can be completed online.

FMA has been collecting data for this survey for 21 years. The ALAW® – Advanced Laser Applications Workshop took place June 6-8, 2016 at the Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth, Mich. completing its 23rd year of educating the laser industry. More than 170 engineers, owners, and managers convened to hear about the latest laser technology innovations and how to lightweight with lasers.

For the second year in a row during ALAW, FMA’s Lasers 101 certificate course was offered on the first day, covering laser basics, laser cutting, and laser welding. At the end of the course participants had the opportunity to complete an exam and earn an industry-recognized credential. This year’s participants gave the course rave reviews.

In my prior article, “Vision and its Role in ‘Noticing,’” we introduced the topic of the reticular activating system (RAS) and its effect on what we notice around us. Since that article came out, I’ve learned the name of this “noticing” effect. It’s called the Baader-Meinhof (pronounced BAHder-MYNhoff) phenomenon. It occurs when you become aware of something and afterward spot examples of it everywhere you look. This is not our topic this month, but I thought you might like knowing it has a formal name.

The award is presented by FMA and sponsored by CNA, and was created by FMA’s Safety Council to recognize a company with a demonstrated safety culture. The award is named in honor of Rusty Demeules, a significant volunteer contributor to FMA, who was President of the FMA Safety Committee from its inception in 1989 until 1996.

Grants Awarded to Community and Technical Colleges Offering Summer Day Camp Experiences Focused on Manufacturing for Youth

 

ROCKFORD, Ill., March 1, 2016 – Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs® (NBT), the foundation of the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, Intl.® (FMA), announces the winners of its 2016 Summer Manufacturing Camp grants.

Thirty-three grants, ranging from $1,000 to $2,500, for a total of $66,000, were awarded by NBT to community and technical colleges offering day camp experiences that introduce young people ages 12 to 16 to careers in manufacturing and engineering. Major sponsors of these camps are the CNA Foundation of Chicago, Kelly Services, and Disney/ABC Television.

ROCKFORD, Ill., Feb. 2, 2016 – Manufacturing industry leader Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, Intl. (FMA) has acquired the media brands Canadian Metalworking and Canadian Fabricating & Welding from Annex Business Media, based in Simcoe, ON, Canada. The brands will be part of FMA Communications Canada, a media subsidiary of FMA, which already delivers print and online products and sponsors in-person events in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
