When a professional enters the workforce, a great education in their line of work is the difference between excelling or trying to keep up, a pay raise or a parting of ways. A great teacher can provide an education that will help someone long after they complete their educational courses.

Steve Benson is a sought-after press brake guru and instructor. He’s president of Asma LLC and has over 40 years’ experience, including 30 on the shop floor as a press brake technician, lead man, and department manager. He’s the writer of the Bending Basics column for The FABRICATOR® magazine. Benson also travels both nationally and internationally to teach engineers how to efficiently design for precision sheet metal fabrication.

Benson is particularly prolific in his career as a press brake instructor. With baby boomers declining rapidly in the workforce, Benson has dedicated his time to teaching modern press brake techniques that usually get left out of the conversation with younger generations.

One of his greatest contributions to the press brake field is his book, Bending Basics, an A-Z reference guide celebrating the art of press brakes in the era of retiring baby boomers. “When I began teaching, I found few sources for modern press brake instruction. This book brings together information that needs to be shared in the transfer of knowledge to those being trained,” said author Steven Benson.

Benson is the instructor for the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International®, (FMA) Precision Press Brake Certificate Course. Scheduled multiple times throughout the year, he’ll teach press brake operators, engineers, and other related personnel how to improve their design, communication, and execution of press brake configurations.  At the end of the course, attendees can earn an industry-recognized certificate.

While Benson is pretty impressive on paper, he’s even better in person. If you’re looking for a highly qualified press brake instructor that will take you further in your career, Steve Benson is your guy and the FMA press brake course is your class.
