Madison area technical college offers a unique opportunity to students interested in the fabrication, manufacturing and welding industries. Following the basic guidelines of the Wisconsin Technical College System, Madison College focuses on the technical knowledge of: blueprint reading, metrology, layout, metal fabrication, metallurgy, and fixturing techniques. Also included is technical training in drill press, threading, lathe and mill operations as related to fabrication. Fabrication training includes an introduction to manipulative welding skills which includes thermal cutting, gas-metal arc (GMAW), flux-cored arc (FCAW) and gas-tungsten arc (GTAW) processes. A unique educational opportunity is available for students of the Fabrication and Welding programs at Madison College. A student that completes either program may continue a third semester in the alternate complimentary program and receive a Fabrication diploma and Welding diploma. Welders and metal fabricators do layout, shape, form, tack and weld metal assemblies or products according to various welding codes and procedures. A Fabrication student will experience more of an emphasis on CNC; programming, cutting, shaping and bending. Welding students will receive training that will prepare them for weld certifications in plate and pipe welding. Equipment used in training includes: Flow Water jet, Press Brake, CNC Plasma, Slip Roll form, Tube and Pipe roll forming, box and pan brakes, English wheel and Planishing hammer.
