Rusty Demeules Award Recognizes Organization with Commitment to Excellence In Safety

ROCKFORD, Ill., March 30, 2016 – The Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International (FMA) and CNA today announced Plymouth Tube of Streator, Illinois as the winner of the 2016 Rusty Demeules Award for Safety Excellence. The award is presented by FMA and sponsored by CNA, and was created by FMA’s Safety Council to recognize a company with a demonstrated safety culture. The award is named in honor of Rusty Demeules, a significant volunteer contributor to FMA, who was President of the FMA Safety Committee from its inception in 1989 until 1996.

“Plymouth Tube has met the standard of excellence for safety established by the previous winners of the Rusty Demeules Safety Award,” said Edward Youdell, president and CEO, FMA. “Their organization’s performance in the area of safety is what all manufacturers should be striving to reach. I congratulate them on winning this year’s award.”

Plymouth Tube is a privately-held family owned manufacturer founded in 1924. The Streator location is one of Plymouth’s eight locations. Established in 1968, the Streator mill manufactures small diameter cold drawn seamless carbon and alloy steel tubing. They also provide uniquely shaped tubing in geometric, spline, and streamline configurations.

Plymouth Tube’s commitment to safety includes their Safety Engagement Program, which focuses on safety tours, meetings, observations and safety suggestions from employees, and helps to generate improvements throughout the facility. Employees are also required to participate in their daily Stretch Program to help ensure employees’ minds and bodies are ready for a safe day at work.

“We are proud to sponsor the Rusty Demeules Award, and even more proud to recognize Plymouth Tube for their conscious effort to create a culture of safety,” said Franklin Maccotan, Assistant Vice President and Industry Leader, Manufacturing, CNA.

Plymouth Tube will be honored at a dinner ceremony during FMA’s Annual Safety Conference to be held April 13-14 at Crowne Plaza Dayton in Dayton, Ohio.
