ROCKFORD, Ill., July 3, 2015 – According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, more than 250 million tons of waste are generated by homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses each year in the United States, and more than half ends up in a landfill.

Manufacturing executives can learn how to help reverse this trend and make their company’s operations more sustainable, eco-friendly, and profitable by attending the Sustainable Manufacturer Network’s Zero-Waste-to-Landfill Workshop Sept. 23 in Wilson, N.C. A presentation and plant tour at Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations facility will provide attendees the opportunity to see a zero-waste-to-landfill program in action by the world’s largest tire and rubber company.

“It’s really exciting that manufacturers are leading the nation’s zero landfill effort, and even more exciting and gratifying to hear that their zero landfill and waste-to-landfill diversion achievements are yielding significant cost savings,” said Kate Bachman, editor of the Sustainable Manufacturer Network (SMN) e-magazine. “Manufacturers seeking help with their waste reduction and diversion programs have relayed that this informational and inspiration-packed workshop has been extremely helpful. I highly recommend it to everyone who contacts me for waste management information.”

“Being a good steward of the environment and our natural resources is a critical part of doing business today – and tomorrow,” said Michael Darr, Wilson Plant Manager, Bridgestone Americas. “We’re proud some of our environmentally sustainable initiatives are considered best practice and tour worthy.”

Cost to attend the event is $395. SMN members can attend for $245. Registration is available online at sustainablemfr.com/events or via phone at (888) 394-4362.

Bridgestone, the world’s largest manufacturer of tire and rubber products, employs more than over 2,000 people at its Wilson plant, a 2 million square foot facility surrounded by the company’s 350-acre Wildlife Habitat and Refuge.
