2008 Machine Tool Inventory for the Forming and Fabricating Industry
The 2008 Machine Tool Inventory is the first national machine tool survey conducted in 10 years. Sponsored by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, Intl., and FMA Communications, the survey reports the number and age of each type of machine.
Demographics
- All survey results are sorted by NAICS, company size, and region.
Summaries by Technology
- Results are sorted by coil processing, forming, cutting and joining, and tube/pipe and wire.
Findings
- The number of metal forming machine tools under 10 years old has increased 9 percent since 1989.
- The number of metal forming machine tools over 20 years old has decreased 5 percent since 1989.
- The survey results support the findings of previous surveys, which reported that machine tools were shifting to smaller shops.
