The FABRICATOR Industry Award 2009 presented by FMA

Award Criteria

Applicants must fill out each category. Wherever possible, please provide quantitative evidence. Proprietary quantitative evidence will be kept confidential and only be used in the judging process. Award entries must be received by Oct. 3, at 5 p.m.

Award Winner

The winner will be selected by an awards committee consisting of staff and members of the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association. The winner will be notified by
Oct. 31, 2008.

The winning company will appear on the cover of the February 2009 issue of
The FABRICATOR and will be featured in a story appearing in the same issue.

The award will be presented at a 2009 FMA conference.

Category 1: Operations (40 points possible)

  • Shop Floor Improvements
    Examples include but are not limited to: quality control standards; implementation of lean activities, techniques, and practices; uptime improvements; inventory reduction; reduction of scrap rate; minimization of material handling; elimination of non-value-added activity
  • Safety
    OSHA 300A form; introduction of ergonomic guidelines; safety team/committee; decrease in lost time due to injury
  • Training
    Cross training, certification, skills training provided to employees; opportunities for leadership development

  • Business Growth
    Expanding into new geographic markets; diversifying into new market segments; cultivating international business; developing cooperative agreements with other job shops to win contracts; improving profit margins
