Certificate Programs

FMA's Roll Form Operator Skilled Trade Certificate Program

Establish your credentials in the area of roll forming with FMA's new skilled trade program! With a Skilled Roll Form Operator Skilled Trade Certificate, you confirm to an employer the valuable technical skills you bring to your position. Your investment of time and effort in completing some basic program requirements can pay off many times over in enhanced standing and earning power on the job.

In response to the industry's need for a recognized standard, FMA's Roll Forming Technology Council has developed a program that evaluates your skills and supplements them with strategic training. Past experience and formal schooling, which you will be asked to verify with documentation, count toward the certificate.

Once FMA receives your completed application and supporting papers, it reviews your application for the classroom portion of the program. The course includes hands-on exercises and a test to gauge your comprehension of the curriculum. Classroom sessions will be offered twice a year. The Roll Form Operator Skilled Trade Certificate is offered upon successful completion of the class work and exam.

Precision Sheet Metal Operator – Level I (PSMO) Certification Exam

Earn the Credentials and Recognition You Deserve!

FMA is preparing to launch its first certification exam in precision sheet metal fabrication techniques, providing a valuable service for both companies and individuals. Individuals who pass the exam will gain the recognition they deserve for their skills and expertise. Companies that require the exam will gain skilled and tested workers who can more effectively run today's sophisticated manufacturing equipment.

The certification exam is 100 questions with a two-hour time limit covering 13 topic areas.

The new program is currently in beta testing. Applicants can expect the exam to be available in July, 2008. The exam is web-based and will be available at proctored testing locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. Candidates can choose a date and location that is convenient for them. The cost of the exam is $245 for FMA/TPA members, $345 for non-members (includes one-year FMA membership). PSMO Certification is valid for three (3) years.

Following the beta testing period,candidateswill be able to visit our testing website where they can create an account and take the practice quiz - the 20 -question quiz will assess their knowledge and give them a feel for the real exam. The practice quiz will be available online anytime/anywhere. A quiz score of 70% is recommended before taking the PSMO exam. The cost of taking the quiz is $25.

Prerequisites

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered eligible for PSMO Certification:

  • one (1) to two (2) years experience as a machine operator; or
  • one (1) to two (2) years of technical training from an accredited program; or
  • successful completion of a one (1) year formally-recognized apprenticeship program in precision sheet metal

The exam application must include a current supervisor's signature. If not currently employed, the applicant must provide one letter of reference from an instructor or individual within the sheet metal industry. Once the application is approved, the applicant will beauthorized to register to take the exam at any one of hundredsof proctored sitesin our testing location network.
